ABC'S of Touring Ride, March 30, 2008
Ride led by Luke Bonofiglio Photos courtesy of Luke Bonofiglio
Sunday started out as a great day to take a short overnight ride to the Jacksonville area. Actually it was dark at 7 AM but there was no water falling from the sky, so it was at least a good day. Four of us headed out from Fletcher’s to add to our point total for the ABC’s of Touring contest that HOG does every year. The first day went well, as our group worked our way in a Northeast direction, stopping to get that all important picture of an official marker along the way. I always refer to the trips as adventures, because you never know what is around the next bend in the road. In our case we found that there was a bridge out on SR-11 and we had to go to I-95 sooner than anticipated, where we sat in a back-up due to a motor home fire. The next morning we woke up to a rather chilly and misty morning, and resumed our journey. We worked our way west to Macclenny where we turned for home on SR-121, which we followed to Lebanon Station. From there it was lunch, a weather change, three more photo stops and home.
