This past Monday a few of us ladies from LOH were invited to watch a wish come true ! It was the wish of Scott Lane the young man we sponsored through one of our charities, the Children's Dream Fund. Scott's wish was to have is bike fixed up so he could ride again. He was involved in a motorcycle accident a few months back. We got to see the look of excitement and anticipation that was on Scott's face as we waited to go in and see his bike for the first time since his accident .
We all went in together to see the bike. Scott was the last one to come in the garage where it was waiting for him. Scott's eyes filled with tears as he looked at this beautiful bike. It made us ladies form LOH feel so good inside knowing that we helped make this all happen for him. Seeing Scott as he saw his bike was enough to make me cry !! Scott also received a nice new helmet . There was a great looking cake that was made for Scott with a cool looking motorcycle on top of it and some balloons. We all joked around for a little while and we really enjoyed getting to know Scott. He also got to listen to us ladies giving him some motherly advise about motorcycle riding and safety He is a remarkable young man. He is in the Coast Guard so we got to see him in his uniform.
LOH raised money to fix the bike but we didn't have enough to cover all the expenses, that's when chapter members Bonnie and Ed Ketchum stepped up to the plate. Ed got in touch with James White from WWR Designs in Largo . Ed explained our situation and he said he would be honored to help us out. He rebuilt the bike with parts from a brand new bike , He really went all out with it. The bike looked like it should be on the show room floor of a new bike dealer !!!
Cynthia Lake and Christin from The Dream Fund were there also. They joined in the celebration with us . They told Scott about us ladies from LOH , and how we sold and baked cookies, wrapped gifts and some of the other things we did to raise money to try to make his dream come true. Scott said he thought it was great that people like us are out there . He said there aren't many people like us . Scott couldn't thank us enough. He was so happy.
Now that we had the unveiling of the bike it was time to give the bike a quick ride around the parking lot. Scott put on all his gear and was ready to ride !! He looked great as he rode off .
It feels so good to know that you can help a sick child no matter what the age smile as they have their greatest dream come true !!!!!
For those that don't know about the Children's Dream Fund , they raise money thru charities like LOH to help make the dreams and wishes of terminally ill children come true. They range from toddlers all the way up to 18 years old.
We ladies of LOH have cookie sales, fund raisers, holiday gift wrapping and we also sell gift cards that you can order thru LOH and a percentage goes to the Dream Fund. Last year we raised over $3,oo.oo for the Dream Fund alone. We also support Women on The Way which is single mothers trying to better themselves by going back to school and work. We also support The Clearwater Marina. If you would like to know anything about any of our charities or would like to know more about LOH feel free to talk to any of us ladies or visit the LOH web site for more information.
I would like to thank all the LOH ladies for their support
I would like to give a big thank you to Bonnie and Ed Ketchum and to James White, if it wasn't for them we would not have been able to pull this whole thing together ! Thank you !!!
